A Fast Food Nation?  So What? - A Group Presentation

Consider the relationship that has developed between fast food and America.  Develop a position that examines the impact of the health food movement in the United States.  Organize your presentation around a thesis on the topic while you analyze how the sources illustrate the impact of fast food or the health movement.  Include specific references to the book Fast Food Nation, Super Size Me, articles assigned, and other research as you develop your presentation. You must also incorporate direct quotes from your readings in your presentation.
WARNING!!! If you miss the due dates for either the presentation or the research paper, you will have to attend Saturday School in order to get late credit.

Required Food Experiences - Choose One from Each List!!!

Remember:  For each experience, you must document it with pictures or video for your yearbook.  You must also write a reflection for the yearbook.  The reflection is one page typed or two pages hand-written.  Both the documentation and reflections are turned in for a grade.  Complete your food experiences (and turn in the assignments) before December 12.  Have fun.  It's supposed to be fun, ya know.

List #1 - Asking

1. Put together a survey for 20 of your friends to fill out.  Ask about many different food attitudes.  Reflect on the results (this would count ask your reflection of the experience).
2.  Interview a McDonald's employee.  Ask 5 or 6 questions about his/her experiences working there, his/her attitude about the food, changes in diet, etc.  Video the interview.
3.  Ask a chef if you can watch him/her prepare a dish while you ask questions.
4.  Interview a waiter.  Ask 5 or 6 questions about his/her experiences working there, his/her attitude about the food, changes in diet, etc.  Video the interview.
5.  Interview the "produce" person at a grocery store.  Ask him/her 5 or 6 questions about where they get the produce, what happens to the produce that doesn't sell, what he/she eats for most meals, etc.
6.  Get together with a group of friends, dress up, and go out to dinner at a nice restaurant that serves a cuisine you haven't tried before.  Ask your server to recommend some dishes to try.
7.  Go to three or four different fast food restaurants and ask them about "secret menu" items.

List #2 - Eating

1.  Have no fast food for two weeks (including soda).  2.  Cook a meal for your family that includes something you've never made before.
3.  Cook a meal for your friends that includes the healthiest food you like to eat.
4.  Eat two Double Western Bacon Burgers from Carl's Jr. in under ten minutes.
5.  Try an exotic seafood dish.
6.  Go vegan or vegetarian for two weeks.
7.  Cook your favorite dish for the class.  Check with Mrs. B. about which day would be best to bring it in.
8.  Try a Triple Whopper from Burger King.
9.  Try any "secret menu" item from several fast food places.
10.  Eliminate one "less healthy" (e.g. dairy, sugar, meat, carbs, etc.) food from your diet for two weeks.
